Americans affected by Down Syndrome have received special attention in the media lately due to Ann Coulter’s controversial tweet during the final Presidential Debate on October 23rd. Instead of responding to this offensive tweet in an aggressive manner, Special Olympics athlete and global messenger John Franklin Stephens released this eloquent public statement inviting Coulter to consider the daily trials and victories of Downs individuals. Stephens urges Coulter, as well as other Americans, “Come join us someday at Special Olympics. See if you can walk away with your heart unchanged.”

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the United States and is the second most fatal cancer. While these statistics are scary, advocacy groups have fought for greater cancer research and treatment methods over the last 30 years, resulting in a marked drop in cancer deaths and a rise in American breast cancer survivors.
